A Deep Sense of Place: The Arkansas Delta, an exhibition from ASC’s Permanent Collection, is now on view in the Altheimer Gallery. Paintings, photographs, and works on paper capture the spaces and moments that combine to create a visceral connection to the land for residents of the Arkansas Delta. Expanses of cultivated fields stretching into the horizon, the lush overgrowth reclaiming buildings, the serene stillness of a lake, the intense sun shining on a white siding porch—these landscapes are not only seen, but felt. The experiences and memories made in this environment further bind residents to the region; it is a place that stays with a person long after it has been left behind. Several local artists’ work is represented in the exhibition including Al Allen, Daniel Coston, William Detmers, Henri Linton, and Tim Jacob. A Deep Sense of Place: The Arkansas Delta will remain on display through October 1, 2014.
