(un)distorted: perceptual paintings by matthew lopas

Interested in representing spaces as they are actually seen, Matthew Lopas disregards conventional perspective. His “global panoramas” record the shift of his gaze in the spaces he paints. The same object, painted in the same actual location, appears in multiple locations in his rigorously and dramatically distorted compositions. Lopas focuses on aged interior spaces that have a history, memory, and lived-in-ness that can be felt in addition to closely observed in these large oil paintings. The exhibition will remain on display through December 5, 2015.
