The Arts & Science Center invites you to ASC’s TinkerFest 2017. This year's free TinkerFest themeencourages a healthy lifestyle by approaching the topic of cycling from a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Mathematics) perspective. Thanks to an anonymous donor, there will be a bike giveaway during TinkerFest 2017 in memory of Tony Carruth, White Hall resident and owner of Tony’s Radical Sportz Bike Shop.
ASC TinkerFest 2017 will include…
Bike repair shop - learn how to change a flat tire, lube a bike chain, and replace bike brakes and pedals.
“Bling your ride” - Air brush and bedazzle that old bike fender, create bike tassels, and decorate bike baskets.
Pedal Power! - Convert your physical energy from riding a bike into power for a blender attached to the bike’s rear tire to make healthy fruit smoothies.
Science of Textiles - Visitors can learn about the science behind the protective properties of textiles used for cycling gear with faculty and students from UAPB’s Merchandising, Textiles and Design program.
3D Cycle Art – Observe Troy DeBill, a White Hall Middle School art teacher and EAST lab facilitator, and a group of her students create a 3D bicycle-themed artwork to be completed by the end of the event.
Arkansas Discovery Network (ADN) partner the Museum of Discovery will be present too. Of course, our Tinkering Studio will be open for all to discover stop-motion animation, coding, and circuitry, as well as our current ADN exhibit, Magnificent Me! that explores the human body through interactive info stations.
