From a plain white T-shirt to an haute-couture evening gown, every piece of clothing is conceived through the artistic imagination of a designer. Both visual art and fashion tell stories through images and convey meaning through visual language, but fashion is an art which is lived. As soon as we don an item of clothing, we become a part of its story and it a part of ours. We give garments their meaning and they in turn help us to develop an identity that is then projected onto the world stage. Who What Wear presents a tailored collection of original artworks from the Arkansas Arts Center’s permanent collection. While engaging with these diverse representations of clothing, viewers are invited to try on the idea that who they are is reflected in what they wear.
